Bio
Ed Friedland has been operating as a mercenary, hit-man bass player for 30 years—playing jazz, rock, blues, country, r&b, fusion, funk, latin, classical... just about any type of music you can get paid for in the US. As if the riches of a freelance career in music weren't enough, Ed wrote for Bass Player magazine from 1992 through 2005, and then became Senior Editor of Guitar World's Bass Guitar magazine from 2005 through '07, until they shut the mother down. Currently the lone voice of bass content at Guitar World, Ed continues to write gear reviews and produce product demo videos for that esteemed publication. While he has played all over the world and backed up many big-name artists (mostly jazz guys you've never heard of), Ed is probably best known for his instructional material for Hal Leonard—he has written 14 books and produced three dvds for bassists including: The Hal Leonard Electric Bass Method, Blues Bass, Reggae Bass, Slap Bass, Building Walking Bass Lines, Building Rock Bass Lines, Bass Grooves, and The Working Bassist's Toolkit.
Ed currently lives in Austin, Texas, where he enjoys a varied schedule of gigs, teaches at the Bass Emporium, writes books, reviews and articles, and tries to eat barbeque at least twice a week.
